Today, I tested a new AI headshot generator app called Dreamwave AI. It is a paid service. I was not asked to submit one but five pictures to get my headshots and I had to wait for 2 hours to receive the outputs, but I was not disappointed. I could recognize myself in all 120 AI-generated photos. I was blown away by the respect for my unique features (skin tone, hair, eye color, and teeth/smile). Dreamwave AI like Anthropic is a great example of a company that is inclusive and intentional about "physics, psychology, and social dynamics and generates helpful output, harmless and honest". This is the proof that it can be done: inclusive AI can be achieved when it is deliberate, intentional, responsible, and by design, not by default. Thank you Dreamwave AI for the authentic representation. Digital colorism is not just a technical oversight; companies that know better do better.

Dreamwave is the second AI headshot service I tried. It cost a little more but the breadth and quality of the photos I received was far superior than my first service. I love that many of the photos are taken directly from my sample photos so it's an acurate depiction of me. While not every picture is a home run as to be expected with AI (a few with crossed eyes, longer noses, cleavage, and odd teeth or mouth) using the auto edit feature is helpful. What this tech can do with only a handful of photos is amazing. Most of the photos are so accurate, you can’t tell it’s AI generated. Fast an easy way to get headshots, especially if you’re camera shy.

The photos were okay and there were a few that were really good that were useable. Worth the $20 if you need a headshot photo for a website, LinkedIn, etc.

They do a great job of giving a variety of photos, and especially with/without a beard if your sample photos contain a range. It's super good at giving samples with the beard at different lengths.

As a designer, it is difficult to take the time in my busy schedule for an in-person photoshoot. Dreamwave far exceeded my expectations! I appreciated the editing tools to refine the chosen headshots.

It was a good first experience in AI headshots. A lot of laughs, for sure. I went with Dreamwave AI following Annie Margarita Yang's YT video review stating it's one of the most 'Asian-friendly' headshot AIs, and the results are alright. I got the basic package, and more than half of them, I would say generally looks like me, and about 1/3 is passable to use in a professional setting. There are a couple distorted ones, which is expected, but not too bad after all's said and done.
